We went back in time!

On Thursday the 11th of August at Moonah Primary the Grade 1/2s went back in time to the olden days. We have been learning about schools from the past in our class.  We pretended that we were in an old school. It was really fun!

The first thing our teachers made us do was some marching outside. Then we sat in two straight lines. The teachers checked our hands to make sure they were clean. We had to stand up straight, with our hands behind our back and sing along to God Save the Queen.

After we sang, the girls went inside to clean the classroom and the boys went outside to clean. In the olden days students had to do a lot of cleaning.

After cleaning we went into our ‘old’ classroom. We sat in rows and had to sit with our arms crossed. Then we did some cursive writing. We wrote the alphabet on slate boards with chalk. If the teachers saw a student writing with their left hand they would have to put that hand behind their back! In the past, students were only allowed to write with their right hand.

Then we read a chapter from Alice in Wonderland. Amelia read us a paragraph but got (pretend) hit by the cane when she mispronounced a word! We then chanted our 2 times table. Ekam got to wear the dunce hat! Students in the olden days had to wear the hat when they got a question wrong! Some students even had their names written in the Punishment book! It was a really fun morning.

History Journal: Fame

We are looking at the term ‘fame’ and what it means to be famous in our history unit. Here are some questions to think about…

1. How does a person become famous?

2. Does fame last forever?

3. Can an individual be famous for only good things?

4. How important is it to be famous?

5. Would you like to be famous? Why?
